Companies demonstrate commitment to diversity
Managing diversity in local workplaces was the focus of a recent Business in the Community Diversity Awareness event in the North West of Northern Ireland.
Denise CranstonWorkplace Director, Business in the Community Northern IrelandDiversity in the workplace is about recognising, embracing and capitalising on the differences between people to benefit the organisation, its people and its customers.
Designed to tackle an issue of increasing importance to businesses in the North West, the session, hosted by Stream Ltd, brought representatives from a range of local employers and a local community based organisation to hear the business case for diverse workplaces.
Major employers like Foyle Food Group, First Housing, Labour Relations Agency and community based organisation Solidarity Equality Education Diversity and Support (SEEDS) attended to learn more about creating inclusive workforces.
Business in the Community’s Northern Ireland Workplace Director, Denise Cranston, believes; “Many employers are not realising the full potential of their workforces or taking advantage of the impact diverse thinking and decision making could have on their business.
“Diversity in the workplace is about recognising, embracing and capitalising on the differences between people to benefit the organisation, its people and its customers.
“Companies attending today seemed to genuinely enjoy the sessions and I have no doubt they will go back to their organisations with a variety of fresh ideas.
“I must say a special thanks to Stream Ltd. for hosting the event and for being so generous with their time and resources.”
