Liverpool Football Club - Healthy Living and Positive Lifestyle Change

Lancaster University Management School North West Award for Impact through Collaborative Leadership

Liverpool Football Club is working in collaboration with Liverpool City Council and other partner agencies to create a range of programmes to emphasise healthy living and achieve long-term lifestyle change in one of the poorest areas of the UK. The programme was given a significant boost with £380k from European funding.

Liverpool Football Club is using the power of its brand to deliver regeneration projects in the local area of Anfield and North Liverpool. Action for Health is one strand of this programme which has required significant leadership collaboration to achieve positive impact in this area.

The programme is run by a Project Manager employed by LFC and an Assistant Project Manager employed by Anfield Breckside Community Council. This unique collaborative management structure has been integral in ensuring the delivery of the Action on Health programme through local organisations, utilising their expertise and offering wider support for community groups. It has built upon the long term involvement of LFC in their community.

The programme comprises initiatives including health courses for young women, tackling obesity in children, offering Health Checks for adults and events focussing on health issues for the over 55s. Delivery partners include Mersey Fire Service, Healthworks, New Beginnings, Heart of Mersey, Blackburne House and independent evaluation is being provided by the University of Liverpool.
