Alex Gourlay
Managing Director, Boots
Alex was appointed to the Executive team in October 2003 having joined Boots as a Saturday assistant in 1976.
After studying pharmacy at Strathclyde University Alex qualified as a Pharmacist in 1981. During the next 15 years Alex worked as a pharmacist/store manager in many locations across the UK. This rich experience running shops and working in community pharmacy brought Alex into general management heading up Boots The Chemists HR and central operations for stores before becoming Retail Director in October 2003.
In July 2005 he was appointed to the position of Director of Healthcare, Store Development and Property.
In November 2006 Alex was appointed Chair of the Business Action on Health Leadership Panel for Business in the Community.
Following the privatisation of the company and the subsequent management changes, in July 2007, he was appointed Managing Director, Boots.
Alex is married with two daughters, lives in Solihull and enjoys all sport especially golf.
